The SAGES Education & Research Foundation awards grants that help to advance its vision of a healthcare world in which all operative procedures are accomplished with the least possible physical trauma, discomfort, and loss of productive time for the patient.
The overarching goal of the Foundation is to advance laparoscopic, endoscopic, and other minimal access surgical methods by supporting reproducible scientific research and outcome studies, graduate and postgraduate education, and public information.
The SAGES Education & Research Foundation will accept applications for grant projects for the 2025 year beginning on August 1, 2024. We award grants to 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) organizations that seek support for programs or projects that align with our mission, goals, or objectives. Grants are given on a competitive basis by submission of a grant application and proposal which is reviewed and evaluated by the Foundation’s Grants Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. Currently, grants are awarded for a one-year period only. Those seeking multi-year funding must reapply each year.
Availability of Grants: An expected total of $500,000 to $600,000 will be allocated in 2024-2025. The SAGES Foundation will consider grant requests between $1,000 to $100,000.
Deadline: Grants must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on September 9, 2024. The grants will be reviewed in October and notification of approvals will occur in November or December. Please note: the Grant Review Committee will not accept proposals submitted after the deadline.
Application: Grant applicants must structure their proposal as described in the application guidelines. Completed applications must be submitted to [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on September 9, 2024.
Evaluation of Applications: Applications are reviewed by the SAGES Foundation’s Grants Review Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. Analysis of applications includes a determination of whether a request meets the basic funding criteria of the SAGES Foundation, including consistency with its programmatic goals, objectives, and priorities; clearly articulated pathways to achieving results; and the potential for measurable impact. A request for additional information may be required after application submission. Please note that due to the volume of applications, the SAGES Foundation is unable to fund all requests submitted for consideration.

Progress Reports: If a grant is awarded, all payments are contingent upon a satisfactory progress report of said activities. The progress report must be submitted upon completion of the funded project, or no later than 6 months from the date funding was received, whichever comes first. A progress report template will be provided to all funded applicants. All future payments are contingent upon a satisfactory progress report. Progress reports must be submitted by July 22, 2024. Note: If your project was awarded a grant from the SAGES Foundation in the past, your current application will not be considered until a progress report from the previously awarded grant is received.
